?-1743; Amelia (Lon. 1732), set on Hungary-Turkey border, with Osmyn, Grand Vizier, Casimir, Hungarian Prince, Amalia and Augusta, ending with ‘a double nuptial’, ‘a new English Opera’ in 3 acts; Contrivances (Dublin 1759) [played at Smock Alley and Crow St.], a ballad opera in which Arethusa is forced to marry Fob, who has a large estate, and is rescued by her wily lover; Dragon of Wantley, burl. op. (1737), Covent Gdn., incl. char. Moore of Moore Hall, set in Yorkshire, diction thus, ‘This dragon very modish and nice is/What shall we do in this disastrous crisis?’; Hanging and Marriage Dead Man’s Wedding (Lincoln Inns 1722), with prologue addressed to ‘that jolly bacchanal Harry Carey’; also The Honourable Yorkshire Man (Lon 1736); Margery (1738); Teraminta (1737); True Blue, or the Press Gang, and The Story of John Gilpin (1787).
