Life
1652-1727 [otherwise Louis]; b. Armandcourt, Picardy; left France with family under Edict of Nantes; emig. Amsterdam, 1685; moved to Ireland by invitation of William III, 1698; appt. overseer of Royal Linen Manufacture of Ireland in 1699; family settled at Donaghadee and Lisburn; opened factory in Kilkenny and published a memoir of his work, 1705; received the thanks of Irish Parliament, 1707; promoted settlements for manufacture of hempen sail-cloth in southern Ireland, 1717; May Crommelin was a descendant.
