Life 1851-?1937; b. London of aristocratic Irish family, ed. The Yellow Book in the 1890s; stories collected in Monochromes (1895, no. XIII of John Lanes Keynotes series) and Modern Instances (1898); a novel, The Bishops Dilemma (1898); specialised in advanced topics such as unhappy marriages; found morbid and pessimistic in tendency; she reputedly had affairs with John Lade and Henry Harland.
