Commentary
Reviews: author of The One Outside [c. 1915], noticed in Maunsel publisher’s list appended to 1915 pop. edn. of St. John Ervine, Mrs. Martin’s Man, with remarks on her ‘racy flavour and sure appeal’ owing to ‘sincerity and simplicity’ (Glasgow Herald); also called ‘a collection of charming and sympathetic short stories … most of them are informed by the realistation that underlying tragedy of all life, which finds its most representative expression in the Celtic temperament.’ (Westminster Gazette).
