Michael Henry Gill

1794-1879; master-printer, b. son of wollen-draper and United Irishman; apprenticed to Dublin Univ. Press, 1813; sole lessee, 1842; produced seven vols. of John O’Donovan, ed., Annals of the Four Masters for the RIA; produced work of international standard; bought stocks, &c. from James MacGlashan, 1856; formed McGlashan & Gill, later M. H. Gill & Son; then Gill & Macmillan, 1968; father of H. J. Gill [q.v.]. DIB DIH
