          Life ?1590-1638; anti-Irish writer, his open letter to Wentworth attacking the Irish nation caused disturbances in Munster; fled from warrant to England; his case raised question of the judicial powers of the Irish parliament; his son and namesake [Vincent Gookin, q.v.] was a political writer in the service of Cromwell.
