Sir Robert Howard (1585-1653), royalist; fifth son of 1st earl of Suffolk; imprisoned and excommunicated for intrigue with vicountess Frances Purbeck, Buckingham’s sister-in-law, 1625; MP Bishop’s Castle, 1624-40; voted compensation by Long Parliament, 1640; expelled for royalism, 1642; estates sequestered.
