Life ESB worker before his imagination was fired by Abbey plays; issued Beyond Pulditch Gates (Dublin: Wolfhound Press 2001), a study of the 1913 Lockout; won Heinrich Bohl Award with Thoughts on a close-down; Jennifer Johnston, judging the competition, encouraged him to turn the story into a novel; sold to Wolfhound by his agent Darley Anderson (London) at Frankfurt Book Fair; his play The Witness concerning a rape case for which he was a juror won the Listowel Playwrights Award, 1999; studying English at TCD from 1998.
