Life
[Samuel Brian; S. B. Kennedy; fam. Brian] b. 1943, Belfast; ed. Sullivan High School and Belfast College of Art; turned to Art History; completed PhD under Anne Cruikshank (TCD) and issued Irish Art and Modernism, 1880-1950 (1991); appt. curator at Ulster Museum, and later Keeper of Art; authored biography and catalogue of Paul Henry (Yale 2000 & 2003 resp.) and works on the painters T.P. Flanagan, Frank McKelvey and Basil Blackshaw as well as the The White Stag Group in wartime Dublin; predeceased by his wife Doreen, 2007; d. 3 Feb. 2022; succeeded at Ulster Museum by Ann Stewart.
