[General] Charles James Napier
Life
1782-1853; statue at Trafalgar Square; reorganised the British army and
fought the Second Afghan War, establishing the Govt. of Sind; wrote a
historical novel, William the Conqueror (1858); Civil and Military
Defects of the Indian Government (1853) was edited posthumously by
his brother, Sir William [infra]; Minutes the the Resignation,
cited in CAB, is by Wellington and Dalhousie in the year after his death.
