Life
1844-1883; b. Dublin; newspaper correspondent; son of John ODonovan
(1809-1861); ed. by Jesuits; studied medicine at TCD; contrib. papers,
1866; joined French army, 1870; wrote letters back to Irish and English
papers; proceeded to Sapin, 1873; represented Daily News in Asia Minor,
1876; covered Russo-Turkish war; made hazardous journey to Merv, 1879,
publishing account as The Merv Oasis; Travels and Adventures East
of the Caspian 1879-81, 2 vols. (1883); died with army of Hinks Pasha
