3rd February 1968

Dear Mrs Le Brocquy,

Thank you for your kind letter a month ago. It was kind of you to write. The reading at the Municipal Gallery went off quite well and we had about sixty or seventy present.

As you are honorary Secretary to the Yeats Society I feel you may care to have a copy of the enclosed which Austin is using to-morrow (Monday) at 10.30. in his Radio Eireann “Modern Anthology”. Perhaps you may get a chance to ‘tune in'.

As you'll gather, I've tried to hit off an appraisal of Yeats's aloof greatness – as captured by Henry Moore – and place it in counterpoint with the contemporary Ireland , political, social and cultural. But principally [over] I've tried to be lighthearted – on the Kavanagh axiom of satire being ‘unfruitful prayer' You were present at the unveiling so you'll be able to assess how well (or otherwise) I've captured the atmosphere.

With kindest regards,

Sincerely, [signed Basil Payne]
