David Kennedy, ‘The Drama in Ulster’, in Sam Hanna Bell, et al., eds., The Arts in Ulster (London: Harrap 1951), p.54, remarks that The Enthusiasm ‘had an effect on his contemporaries out of all proportion to its achievement’ and calls it ‘the first breath of naturalism in the Ulster theatre’.
