Louth, met Jeffrey and Scott in Edinburgh; companion of Lord Byron in Pisa; Byron laughed at his poetry but admired his knowledge of Dante; issued Padilla: A Tale of Palestine (1816); A Comment on the Divine Comedy of Dante (1822) 499pp.; Adelais, a poem (priv. 1852); The History of the ... Order of St. John of Jerusalem (1852); Lord Byron praised him in a letter for his ‘excellent commentary on Dante, full of new and true information, and much ingenuity’ - with further reflections on his Irishness.
