Samhain

1901-06, 6 issues; a further issue in 1908, and another planned for 1909 but never published; organ of the National Theatre Movement, following Beltaine, and edited by W. B. Yeats; contains one-act plays and other writings by Lady Gregory, Douglas Hyde [in Irish, trans. by Lady Gregory], John M. Synge, Jack Yeats and W. B. Yeats, and other contribs. by AE [George Russell], Robert Gregory and George Moore. [Var. 1901-05 in Harmon, 1977.] Yeats published some parts of his projected 1909 contribution independently as“Paragraphs from the forth-coming number of ‘Samhain’”.

Issue No. 1 contained an essay by Moore, a plea for the National Theatre by Edward Martyn and the text of Douglas Hyde’s play Casadh an tSúgáin.
