Macarty; 4th Earl of Clancarty]; sent by his mother, guardian after his fathers death, to Christ Church, Oxford, 1676; decoyed to London by Justin, titular Viscount Mountcashel; m. at 16; became Roman Catholic, 1685; espoused James II in Ireland; member of Irish House of Lords, 1689; prisoner on capitulation of Cork, 1690; escaped Tower of London, 1694; went to St. Germains; arrested in London and committed to Newgate, 1698; pardoned; lived on island in the Elbe nr.
