1807-1873 [Robert Le Mesurier M’Clure; McClure], b. Main St., Wexford, explorer; first lieut. on Ross’s expedition to find Franklin [see M’Clintock, supra]; 15 expeditions to Arctic with that object; Discovered the North West Passage, which Franklin was seeking, on board Investigator, 1850, trapped in ice for two years; rescued by Cpt. Kellett; knighted, and awarded 10,000 by parliament; served in Chinese waters; made admiral; published Voyages, 2 vols. (1884). CAB DIB DIW
