?-1775; Catholic printer; father of Peter Hoey and James the Younger, who joined the other in business after the death of their father; sometime partner with George Faulkner in Dublin Journal,; fnd. his own Dublin Mercury (1766-72 [or 1773]), a government organ of the Townsend administration; published Curry’s Memoirs (1770); commenced a circulating library c1770.
