James Sligo Jameson
Life
1856-1888; naturalist and African traveller, b. Clackmannanshire, son
of Andrew Jameson and grandson of John Jameson of Dublin; his mother Margaret
Cochrane, dg. of James Cochrane of Geln Lodge, Sligo. Explored land of
Matebelis; also Montana; back in Africa with Stanley, he witnessed cannibal
banquet in Upper Congo, and was accused by Stanley of instigating it (Times,
8 Nov. 1890). Died of haemuratic fever at Bangala. A diary of the Emin
