Molesworth Phillips

Life
1755-1832; b. Swords; Royal Marines, 1776; Capt. James Cook’s companion when he was killed on the beach in Hawaii, escaping to the boat; m. dg. of Dr. Charles Burney and became acquainted with Johnston, Mrs Thrales, and Charles Lamb. Lived in France from 1784 till end of French Revolution, and on his return detained by Napoleon till 1814; became acquainted with Charles Lamb. Died of cholera in his home in Lambeth. ODNB DIB.
