1664-1738 [alias Rogers]; engaged in spying for Jacobite cause over twenty
years; forged letters form Prince Eugène with information of whig
plots against the government; arrested as accomplice in Layer’s plot,
1722, the latter being executed at Tyburn; imprisoned in Tower of London
and died soon after release. ODNB
