Patrick Russell

Life
1629-1692; b. Rush, Co. Dublin; became ed. Lisbon; ord. 1654; Vicar-General of Dublin in 1680 and consecrated Catholic archbishop of Dublin, 1683, succeeding Peter Talbot [q.v.] who died in prison; did much to restore discipling of church after accession of James II, 1685; fled to France in 1690 but returned to serve his diocese; imprisoned on flight of James II; captured and tried in Dublin Castle; died in prison; his coffin plate was discovered in Rush in the 1850s.
